Leather Wallets for Men
A men's wallet lives in a trouser pocket: it gets sat on, squashed, soaked in the rain and flipped open a thousand times. That's why the design matters more here than with any other leather piece. On this page you'll find our handmade wallets for men in genuine leather: slim card holders, classic billfolds with a coin pocket and large long-format wallets. If you'd rather take a broader look first, you'll find all wallets for women and men on our overview page.
What the men's styles have in common: they're flatter than the women's wallets, close with a press stud or not at all instead of a zip all the way round, and do without a flap. The differences lie in the format.
Wallet, billfold or breast wallet: different words for the same piece
In German there are three words for it: Geldbeutel in Bavaria and Austria, Portemonnaie in the north, Portemonnaie or Geldbörse in Switzerland, and anyone who means the large long format for the jacket pocket says Brieftasche. In English you'll hear wallet, billfold or breast wallet. It always means the same thing: a leather case for cards, notes and coins. On this page we use all the terms side by side so you find what you're looking for, whether a leather wallet for men, a billfold with coin pocket or a slim wallet for the front trouser pocket.

Which size suits you?
Before you lose yourself in colours and embossings: where will you carry the wallet, and what has to fit inside? The answers almost always lead to one of three designs.
Card holder and Slim Wallet: for the front trouser pocket
If you rarely pay in cash, a card holder is all you need. A handful of cards, a few folded notes, done – the case is so flat that it disappears into a front trouser pocket or a shirt pocket. The Slim Wallets go one step further and add a small coin pocket or a money clip. Both are the right choice if a thick wallet in your back pocket bothers you.
Classic wallet with coin pocket
The landscape format with card slots, divided note compartment and press-stud coin pocket is the men's billfold most people know. It takes notes unfolded, keeps change separate and fits in a back pocket or jacket pocket. We offer it in several sizes, from the compact format to the medium-sized wallet with more card slots. All styles with a coin compartment: wallets with coin pocket.
Large wallets and long format
If your vehicle registration, health insurance card, loyalty cards and cash all need to be in one place, you need room. The large wallets in long format are designed for the inside pocket of a jacket or blazer, not for your trousers. In return they offer considerably more card slots and a note compartment that holds even the large notes flat.
Which long-format wallet fits which jacket pocket, and when the landscape format is the better choice, is covered in our guide Men's breast wallets: which format for what.
Features: coin pocket, RFID protection and chain
Coin pocket. On a men's wallet, a press-stud coin pocket is the standard: it opens with one hand and doesn't add bulk in your trouser pocket. If you want to be sure nothing slips out when you sit down, choose a style with a zip on the coin pocket. And then there's the coin purse, the classic change purse where you tip the coins into the open flap and see at a glance what's there – handy as a second wallet alongside a card holder.
RFID protection. Almost all men's wallets in our range have built-in shielding against contactless reading of bank and credit cards. You can't see it from the outside. Whether a style has it is stated on its product page. Bear in mind: contactless payment then only works with the card taken out – that's the whole point of the shielding.
Chain or carabiner. On a motorbike, at a festival or in the beer garden, a back pocket isn't a safe place. Wallets with chain hook onto a belt loop or waistband; the chain can be removed when you don't need it.
Leather and care
With few exceptions, all men's wallets on this page are made of genuine leather and are handmade. Most are buffalo leather: thick, firm, with a pronounced grain – a leather that won't stretch out of shape in a back pocket. Some styles are cowhide, which is smoother and more even. And then there's Hunter leather, an oiled leather with a matte, slightly waxy surface. It visibly carries every touch: edges darken, surfaces take on a shine, scratches stay. After a year, no two Hunter leather wallets look alike. If you like that, there's nothing better; if you want a wallet that looks new for a long time, go for smooth cowhide.
Caring for a wallet is a small job. Your hands re-oil the leather every time you handle it; a dry cloth for dirt is usually all it needs. If the wallet gets wet, let it dry slowly at room temperature and don't put it on a radiator. Light scratches on Hunter leather usually disappear when you rub them with your thumb. A touch of leather grease once or twice a year is enough – too much makes the leather soft and the edges untidy.
Frequently asked questions about men's wallets
How many cards fit in a men's wallet?
A card holder takes a handful of cards, a classic wallet considerably more, a long-format wallet the most. How many card slots a style has is stated in its product description. Count beforehand which cards you really need every day – most haven't been pulled out in months.
Do banknotes fit in unfolded?
In the classic billfolds and all long-format styles, yes, even the large notes. In card holders and the flattest Slim Wallets, notes have to be folded once – that's what makes these styles so slim.
Which wallet fits in the front trouser pocket?
Card holder, Slim Wallet and the flat jeans wallets. A classic wallet with a full coin pocket is too thick for the front; it belongs in a back pocket or jacket pocket.
Why does the leather look different after a few weeks?
Because it's leather, and especially if it's Hunter leather. It darkens where it's handled and takes on a shine where you touch it. That isn't wear, it's the patina this leather is bought for. A raindrop or grease spot on oiled leather soaks into the material over time and usually disappears on its own.
Can I return the wallet if it isn't right for me?
Yes. Within the return period you can send it back unused; a short message with your order number to our customer service is all it takes. If you're torn between two formats, the best approach is to order both and send one back.
